Park St. Trio

Hey, it's been to long. I have been so busy with music, I just keep forgetting to update my blog. Anyhow, here's the latest. Park St. Trio has released an album!!! It's called "Goodnight, Daylight" and includes 5 tracks by Jason Countryman and 6 tracks by me, yay. This marks the first album I have written songs for, which is super exciting for me.

We recorded the album at Little Red Wagon Studio's in Fremont. The record was recorded onto 2" tape, which means no editing, no protools magic and we did no overdubs. Simply put, we played 3 takes on each track then picked the best take. Simple, fast (11 tracks in 1 day), and live. The album has a great "live" feel because we were all in the same room, playing off of each other. Whatever happened, happened.

Please take a listen to the tracks. If you would like to show your support and purchase the album, you can do that here: Park St. Trio, "Goodnight, Daylight"

If you prefer the physical CD, you can pick one up at a show or feel free to email mail me and we can work it out via Paypal or check in the mail.

Thanks so much, hopefully we'll see you at a show soon, enjoy the music!

Aloha Screwdriver "No Way Out"

Finally, album #2 for the year has been released. Aloha Screwdriver played just one show and had an offer to make an album, so we took it. The songs were recorded directly to 2" tape, then mixed in a traditional stereo spread. The sounds is completely different than anything I have recorded before. With no overdubs, no editing, and very few takes on each song. I hope you enjoy this new... well, actually old sound.

You can download the album right now on iTunes or Amazon:

Amazon - Aloha Screwdriver "No Way Out"

You can also sign up for our email list, from there you will get a link to the actual disc in our new Aloha Screwdriver store, which will be up early next week.

Trip Device "Nowhere On Earth"

IT'S OUT!!!!!!

We are super excited about our latest release, "Nowhere On Earth". Bryan and I worked really hard on the new sound of Trip Device, balancing electronic and acoustic instruments, creating catchy strong melodies, and rhythms that are heavy and groove oriented. Please download the album and leave us a review, find us on Facebook and Twitter to follow the development and promotion of the record.

Thanks so much for all the support, I can't wait to hear what you think.

I owe an update...

Ok, I know it's been a while since I have written on my site. Poor form, for sure.

That said, I have also been super busy. Here's what's been going on...

TRIP DEVICE - Just sent our mixed tracks out to John Cuniberti who will apply his most amazing mastering skills to this epic sounding record. We have the art work ready to go, so as soon as the tracks get back to us we will submit them to iTunes and you can go get some new music.

FAREWELL TYPEWRITER - We are nearly done mixing, and just need to rerecord a couple vocal tracks that came out "hissy". This album has taken more than a year to finish, I guarantee it's going to sound amazing and will be well worth the wait. Look for this one some time in March.

ALOHA SCREWDRIVER - We are finished recording, mixing and mastering our first album. Recorded directly to tape, this is the most raw of all the albums. Artwork is the final piece here, as soon as that is done we press the record and you get to have 7 new tunes to rock out to.

PARK ST. TRIO - Exciting stuff happening here. We found a new bass player, Nick Underwood, and we have been working hard on writing original jazz tunes. Very traditional sounding tunes, with some modern edge. The band is planning to do a low-fi recording some time in March or April. I'm truly excited about this one.

As for me personally, I have been playing drums and teaching non stop. Taking care of my kid, who will be one year old on the 10th, and my partner and I bought a house. First home I've ever owned, pretty cool.

Here's a video: This track will be on the new Trip Device album, here's me recording the drum part. Songs called "Flying in the Face of Reason"

2006

In 2006 I was playing a show in San Diego with Trip Device. At the end of the show, I jumped off the stage and split my heel bone in half. The on site nurse told me it was probably just a bad sprang, so I didn't go to a hospital. Instead I borrowed a wheel chair from the Days Inn we were staying at and went out partying.

The next day, still in a ton of pain, we were driving home when the van broke down. It would not switch out of 3rd gear, so we could only drive about 30 miles per hour all the way back to the Bay Area from San Diego. So, when we finally got home around 2 AM, my foot was throbbing.

Well, this is a video of the first show I played after breaking my heel. It's with Trip Device again, at the Loud Music Symposium. I still have a cast on in this video, whcih makes it really hard to stand up.

I hope you enjoy this flashback! STEVe

Happenings...

Aloha Screwdriver has played our first real show. It was highly successful, at Mt. Charly's in Los Gatos. Here's a video in case you missed it...
Aloha Screwdriver

Park St. Trio will begin rehearsing for our first jazz record next week. 12 songs written by me, lets hope they all make the cut.

OH... Great news on the Farewell Typewriter front. Our album is named, the art work is nearly complete and the mixing/mastering is being done as I type this. So far we have gotten 2 tracks back from T.W. Walsh (our engineer) and they sounds incredible.

Mean while, check out Aloha Screwdrivers big show on Sep. 11th @ Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. We are opening for Southern Culture on The Skids. We play at 9 and it's all ages. Get tix in advance, this may sell out.

I Don't Work For JetBlue...

However, I do have a job that requires me to freak out in a different way.

This is whats happening...

Aloha Screwdriver is gearing up to play our biggest show yet. The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, on September 11th, opening for Southern Culture on The Skids. We are super excited to show off our high energy surf tunes and scare people with our crazy outfits from the future. What?

Click here for more details and tickets

Farewell Typewriter is about to drop our new album! We are super excited about how it sounds. Currently it's getting mastered by TW Walsh, the art work is getting done and then it's off to the presses. Check out our web site and sign our mailing list for updates.

Farewell Typewriter

Ok, other things. Park St. Trio is working on our first jazz CD, look for that in a few months. The Ebay cover band, Twisted Lister, is back in business - at least for one show.

Other than that I am busy fielding very clever jokes about how I work for JetBlue. Really though if I had to pick an airline to work for it would be Virgin America, they have hotter flight attendants. :)
